Texas

I’ve had less than 4 hours sleep and have a lot more to say than my fingers will be able to type right now, as they are stiff little fingers due to sheer exhaustion and extensive clapping, though truthfully I could never clap enough to show my utter appreciation and reverence for the wonderful shows I’ve seen since I got to Texas on Saturday…

First off let me say that my sister is one gorgeous, fantastic, wonderful woman, and I would do anything in the world for her. but this weekend she did for me – providing me with a wonderful place to stay and two of the world’s cutest dogs to play with… I will never get enough of hanging out with Emily…

Saturday upon my arrival Keith picked me up in a white van (airport security loves a white van, Keith said) and dropped me at my sister’s, where I got licked to pieces by Chester and Maddy, Emily & Max’s hilarious dogs. I then went over to meet the awesome Martha and Tequila Brad at The Barley House for a few drinks, to catch up and have laughs, which was done… afterwards I tore ass over to the Granada just in time to see The King Bucks. Great show, good lord, I loved ‘em, but didn’t have the energy to stick around long after they went offstage.

Sunday night I was back at the Granada for Jason Isbell and The Drams (photos soon) – it was so good to see Jason, he was in high spirits and his band sounded great. Hanging out in the ’smoking section’ (couches out behind the club) with everyone was hilarious, as usual. Emily came out and I got to meet the tiniest and cutest baby Barr, who’s just about as smiley and sweet as a baby can be, and was fascinated by Brent picking the guitar next to him (he very much had the look of, “heeeeey, that’s what daddy does!”). He just stared me straight in the eyes and grinned – I mean Jess is a goodlooking man and god knows Ashley is beautiful as can be, but what a truly gorgeous little boy! The Drams blew the doors off the place and left just enough standing for Jason and his band to have something to destroy with their rock.

Sunday night Emily and I drove over meet the littlest Harper, who was another of the most charming and flirty and gorgeous little baby boys I’ve ever seen; I swear those Slobberbone boys make some purty kids (so far, hahah) . Then we headed off to ClubDada to see Glossary and Lucero. Glossary has seen me like four times in two months and I’m sure they think I’m stalking them. When they came offstage, I told them about the Slobberbone reunion show which led to much wailing and gnashing of teeth, and eventually a phone call to Brent Best that convinced them to ditch one night of plans during their tour with Lucero and come to Denton to open for Slobberbone instead.

And then, last night, Slobberbone. Glossary was determined to bring it, and it was broughten. Many times I caught myself headbanging in synch with Brent who was sitting by me, which cracked me up (sitting down headbanging? an art form), and laughing at Joe Cripps who was playing the fuck out of the bongos with Glossary (I know, bongos? AWESOME). The poor Magpies, who had the night booked originally, got on stage and said, “Well, they said they’d get us some good local acts to play with, and I guess they did…” They were excellent, and I highly recommend watching out for the keyboardist’s glasses which flew off his face several times in his frenzied playing… I’ll be seeing those guys again, for damn sure.

I won’t even go into how amazing Slobberbone was right now, but suffice it to say that my heart still hasn’t stopped racing, nor have my ears stopped ringing, and if I could have anything in the world right now it’d be to go back and do it all again – standing at the edge of the stage being very drunk with Todd Beene, rocking out with Lexi and the girls, hearing those songs I was pretty sure I’d never hear played again… Thank you, boys. Thank you.
