Alabama summertime
Every year my Dad has a great 4th of July party where the family gathers and Dad grills and we all get really full of meat and swim and canoe and such. Dad’s house is on a sand mine lake, and it’s gorgeous – a huge lake with sandy cliffs and forest surrounding it, several creeks running off of it, and lots of beavers. His house has a pier he built, so you can run right off it and jump into the deliciously cold water without getting on the murky banks. It’s the perfect swimming hole.
I came early to stay with Mom and made another damn banana pudding, which everyone loved. My stepfather Steve is a magician and a filmmaker, and my Mom is smart as a whip, funny and has a personality that might even exceed in beauty her physical gorgeousness, so the house is always lively and there’s plenty of wonderful conversation. My extended family are mostly hilarious people who love to laugh; there are tons of great dogs to play with; and scenery that will floor ya – from Stairstep Bluff that Mom built her house on to the lake Dad owns. Best of all, everyone gets along, and love is overflowing.
Needless to say, I LOVE coming home.
This year neither my brother nor sister made it, which makes us all sad, but that is life – I guess they had better things to do, and I can’t blame them since I don’t walk in their shoes, but I did miss them – a lot. Luckily next weekend I get to go to Texas to see my sister, and that’s not all…
It appears that my favorite band of all time might be doing a little reunion show, and by god if there’s even the slightest chance of that happening, I will be there. I had just enough miles to get me a ticket to Dallas and back for $11, so I fly out on Saturday and don’t come back until Wednesday night. The Drams open for Jason Isbell on Sunday in Dallas, which I didn’t even realize until they reminded me. Other members of The Drams are playing in some form or another with other bands on every night I am there, so basically, I get to see great music every night and see many of my favorite people AND my beautiful sister. I can’t wait. I know I’ve been really lucky lately and have gotten to do some amazing things, so believe me, I am thankful. I don’t blame you for hating me.

Sweet Jesus! Nobody could hate anybody for being lucky in life. You’re blessed and you should always remember just how much. I live underneath London Heathrow Airport. All I got is a shit can back yard that you couldn’t swing a cat in. But I am happy. Every day I am thankful for the things in life I have and I try not to complain too much. Enjoy your life. It is not a rehersal. Love vibes from London.

Am hung-over, in the office (ugh), in the middle of the city (so much concrete…). Don’t hate you. You deserve all your pleasures, but I’m EXTREMELY envious of you for that beautiful lake… would give a lot to be in that lake right now…
